Unexpected Pleasures
Mood:  surprised
It has been an interesting weekend. The weather has been very unusual for Kentucky - low 70's and lots of sunshine without the humidity! Usually it's 90's and 95% humidity! We're all enjoying this unexpected blessing.

I took off work on Friday, and Ted is in Kentucky with me this week so we had a relaxing morning. Then he left in the early afternoon to visit his father, leaving me with the MG to drive. No problem, since he fixed it after my last disastrous incident. (You can read about that in another blog entry.) Friday evening I spent catching up on all sorts of personal e-mails and critiques for my various writing groups.

Saturday morning I got up, took a walk, and prepared to run down to the farmer's market to buy vegetables. It was a gorgeous day for a ride in a convertible, so I looked forward to it. I backed the car out of the driveway, drove down to the end of my street and stopped at the stoplight. A thought flickered through my mind, "This is the same intersection where the car died the last time. Wouldn't it be funny . . ." The light changed. I pulled out into the intersection and --- the car died!!!! I'm not kidding. And it was NOT funny. Thank goodness for a nice policeman who happened to come along and block traffic while I rolled the car backwards to the side of the road. (People were downright rude!)

Besides the frustration of waiting for a tow truck and dealing with a dead car, no transportation meant missing my father's birthday party at my sister's house (she lives in another town) and church on Sunday.

But things turned out ok in the end. My sister and father decided to delay the birthday dinner until Wednesday and a friend offered to take me to church. So I had the entire day on Saturday to write! It was wonderful!

And then this morning when I took my walk through the heavily wooded part of my neighborhood, I came upon a mother doe nursing her triplets! Ted and I have seen the little fawns following a doe around, but he says twins are rare and triplets almost unheard of. (He's from the country - he knows these things.) We assumed they belonged to at least two does, but this morning I got proof positive that they're all babies of that one mama. I stood quietly and watched them for a few minutes, breathing the forest-scented crisp morning air and shielding my eyes from dazzling bright sunshine, I thought, "What a blessing, Lord! Thank You for giving me this glimpse of one of the miracles of Your world."

Ted will be back this afternoon, he'll fix the car and all will be well again.

But really, all is well now!

"Thou shalt not envy thy neighbor's spotting of deer triplets nursing" That is what I am saying to myself as I read your entry for today. Wow! That is truly neat.
And I am glad that your events of yesterday got redeemed into such a wonderful weekend.
